Researchers are discovering that fish, particularly predatory species, can naturally see the ultra-violet or UV light spectrum. Ultraviolet light is a type of electromagnetic radiation from the sun transmitted into short wavelength, high frequency energy between visible light and x-rays. UV light penetrates much further into the water than visible light - up to 700m deep in ideal conditions making it an ideal choice for murky water or cloudy days. Fish retinas generally have both rod cells and cone cells for scotopic and photopic vision. The position of these rod and cone cells in the eyes of most fish enhance their sensitivity to motion and contrast. According to Zack Jud, a fisheries biologist at Florida International University, fish have developed the ability to see reflected UV light to aid in the recognition of a mate or an enemy and to view food sources such as transparent plankton.
Every one of our handcrafted lures features a UV reactive element enhancing the fishes attraction. Don't just entice the fish, LAND them!
